Réparations / Simulacras

These large drawings on canvas are "repaired" portraits of the posterior part of a human skull found near a slave cemetery in Guadeloupe.
They figure simulacras of reparation that this faceless skull could undergo, metaphors of colonial and post-colonial solutions produced to perpetuate the exploitation situations which, far from leading to Reparation, only aggravate the complexity of the necessary processes.

These still lifes are made with charcoal on white canvas: black coal to evoque the long invention of "the nigger" during the slavery and colonial period / White canvas for European hegemony, translated in an art history dominated by the colonial empires productions, especially paintings.

They are the result of a very meticulous work, any passage of coal on the immaculate canvas leaving its trace.
